Although most people look at conformity as something bad, everyone still manages to conform in one way or another. The classic situation where conformity occurs is when one person wants to be accepted by a group, or a certain type of people, so they change either, their clothes, appearance, ideas, or attitudes to "fit in" with the rest of the crowd. However the type of conformity that usually goes unseen is when one is actually trying to separate themselves. For example, someone getting a tattoo or wearing neon colored clothing or something else that wouldn't be considered the norm would actually be conforming to those who try and separate themselves as well. So I guess everyone conforms in one way or another, and the harder they try not to the more they are conforming.

I agree Nick, Conforming becomes tricky, especially when you are actually trying no to conform to your friends or family's beliefs
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree with you Nick. There is a such thing as the "conformist rebel". But at the same time there are still individuals who are able to escape conformity. These individuals follow their own beliefs, pursue their own interests and have their own opinions. The hard part is telling whether these things are truly theirs or simply a subconscious reflection of society's values.
ReplyDeleteI love the part about trying not to conform by getting a tattoo! How about really showing everybody by getting a tattoo of the Chinese character for rebellion! So original!
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you guys, Nicolas and Efosa man. and you Franch! I believe the biggest catalyst to someones conformity is peer pressure; however, their is also a kind of "conformist rebel"; who simply are just more independent and self-reliant.
